FAQ & Support

Comprehensive answers regarding YouLumi technology, scientific mechanisms, safety protocols, testing data, and business solutions.

Science & Mechanism

How does Red Light Therapy actually work?
Red light therapy works via Photobiomodulation (PBM). Specific wavelengths stimulate the mitochondria (the powerhouse of the cell) to produce more ATP energy. This reduces oxidative stress and inflammation, accelerating natural healing.
What is the difference between Red and Near-Infrared (NIR) light?
Red Light (630-660nm) is absorbed by surface tissues, making it ideal for skin health and collagen production. NIR Light (810-850nm+) penetrates deeper into muscles, joints, and bones to support recovery and reduce pain.
Is Red Light Therapy the same as Infrared Saunas?
No. Infrared saunas rely on thermal energy (heat) to induce sweating. Red light therapy uses LED photobiomodulation to deliver light energy directly to cells without extreme heat. They have different biological effects.

Benefits & Applications

What are the primary benefits for clients?
The most common professional applications include skin rejuvenation (anti-aging), pain management (joints/muscles), sports recovery, and sleep optimization.
Can it help with athletic recovery and muscle growth?
Absolutely. Many athletes use it to reduce delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) and speed up recovery times. It can be used both pre-workout (conditioning) and post-workout (recovery).
Are there specialized applications like Hair Loss or Brain Health?
Yes. Research supports PBM for hair follicle stimulation, brain health (cognitive function), and even hormonal balance.

Product Technology & Testing Data

Do you provide testing data (Irradiance, EMF, Flicker)?
Yes. We provide transparent data on Irradiance (mW/cm²), Beam Angle, EMF levels (0 at usage distance), and Wavelength verification. Our professional drivers ensure 0% flicker.
Why should I buy a professional device instead of a cheap one?
Not all red light is created equal. Professional devices offer clinically effective irradiance, verified wavelengths, consistent cooling, and regulatory clearance. Cheap devices often lack the power to penetrate tissue effectively.
What is Pulsed Red Light Therapy (Hz)? Do I need it?
Pulsing means the light turns on/off rapidly (e.g., 10Hz, 40Hz). Some studies suggest pulsing can reduce tissue heating and may influence brain waves (Alpha/Gamma). It is an advanced feature for clinics.

Usage Protocols

How often should clients use the therapy? (Frequency)
For general wellness, 3–5 sessions per week is the gold standard. Consistency is more important than intensity. Overuse can lead to diminishing returns (biphasic dose response).
How long should a session last? (Duration)
Sessions typically range from 10 to 20 minutes. The exact time depends on the device's irradiance and the distance from the user. High-power professional panels require less time than home devices.
Do I need to use serums or conductive gels?
Generally, red light therapy works best on clean, bare skin. Unlike ultrasound, conductive gels are not required, which reduces consumable costs for clinics. However, some serums can be synergistic.

Safety & Side Effects

Is it safe? Are there cancer risks?
Red light therapy is non-ionizing and UV-free, making it very safe. It does not cause DNA damage like UV rays. In fact, it is often used to help heal skin damage.
What is the light safety rating of YouLumi devices?
Our LED systems are designed for professional use and follow international photobiological safety frameworks (such as IEC/EN 62471 for eye and skin exposure). In practice, this means:
  • Recommended working distance and session time are set within safe exposure limits.
  • Blue-light, retinal, and thermal hazards are evaluated as part of our optical design.
  • High-power panels include clear usage labels and eye-protection recommendations.

Because each model has a different optical output, the exact risk group classification and test data are specific to the device (full-body panel, mat, cap, etc.). For clinics, distributors, and OEM partners, we can provide detailed photobiological safety reports and lab documentation for review.

If you need model-specific safety data (risk group, test distance, or exposure limits) for your compliance file or local regulations, please contact our engineering team and we’ll share the corresponding test reports.
Can clients keep their eyes open?
While red light is not typically damaging, bright LEDs can be uncomfortable. For professional high-intensity panels (especially with NIR), we strongly recommend using eye protection (goggles).

Compliance & Positioning

Do you have ISO 13485 certification?
We do not currently hold ISO 13485 certification. For each cooperation project, we can confirm the available quality, testing, and compliance documents by product model.
Do you have a U.S. FDA registration number?
We have completed U.S. FDA establishment/device registration and listing for applicable products. This is registration and listing only, and should not be presented as FDA approved, FDA cleared, or FDA certified. If you need U.S. market clearance details, we can review the requirements by model and intended use.
Can you provide CE MDR documents?
We can provide available CE compliance documents for electrical safety and EMC, as applicable. Our current CE documentation is not CE MDR medical device certification. If you plan to market the product as a medical device in the EU, MDR classification and conformity assessment should be reviewed separately.
Can you support Philippine FDA CMDN/CMDR registration?
We can support the local registration process by providing available product specifications, labels, manuals, test reports, and compliance documents. Official CMDN/CMDR applications and certificates are generally handled by the licensed local applicant, importer, or distributor according to device class.
Have you supplied medical distributors before?
Yes. We have worked with medical distributors before. In those projects, YouLumi supported as the factory while the distributor managed local certification and registration in its market.

Business Solutions & Setup

How do I setup a Red Light Therapy clinic?
We provide a complete blueprint. You need to consider room size, electrical requirements, ventilation, and correct device placement for full-body coverage.
How should I price my sessions? (ROI)
Pricing depends on your market and service model (add-on vs. standalone). Membership models often yield the best long-term ROI.
What about FDA Clearance and CE Certification?
Regulatory compliance is vital for liability and marketing. Our devices meet various international standards. We help you navigate FDA vs CE requirements based on your location.
How do I clean and maintain the devices?
Hygiene is paramount in clinical settings. We provide standard operating procedures (SOPs) for cleaning devices without damaging the lenses or LEDs.
